Jordan Melton was shot on July 12 while conducting routine morning checks with Firefighter Jamal Jones at Station 9 in Norwood, a neighborhood of Birmingham. Melton was in critical condition while Jones was in serious condition following the shooting. Melton, 29, succumbed to his injuries on Monday. He graduated from the recruit academy only one month ago. In a statement, Mayor Randall Woodfin described Melton as young, vibrant and “full of life.” “I ask that you join me in wrapping our arms around Jordan’s family today,” Woodfin said. “They’ve lost a son, a brother, a friend and colleague.” A suspect is not yet in custody in connection with the shooting. “Know that we’re exhausting every resource to find answers and justice for Jordan’s loved ones,” Woodfin said. “Jordan paid the ultimate price for his service to our city, we will not let that sacrifice be in vain.” The Birmingham Fire & Rescue Service Department honored their fallen firefighter following his death. Investigators believe a man or a group of men entered the fire station building on the morning of July 12 through an open bay door and shot the firefighters, Police Chief Scott Thurmond said last week. The shooting was targeted but investigators have not yet determined a motive, according to Thurmond. A reward of $45,000 is being offered for information leading to the arrest of those responsible for the shooting, according to Crime Stoppers of Metro Alabama. The investigation is ongoing. July 22, 2023, 10:38 PM +07 By Minyvonne Burke An Oklahoma woman killed her three young children, ages 11, 6 and 10 months, and then herself during a supervised visitation at her home after an hourslong standoff with police, authorities said. An officer responded Thursday afternoon to a home in Verdigris, in metropolitan Tulsa, because fireworks were erupting outside, the Willie Nelson Cut-N-Putt Skull 2023 Shirt but I will buy this shirt and I will love this Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation said in a news release. The officer encountered Brandy McCaslin, 39, barricaded inside the home with a firearm. State investigators said they tried to negotiate with McCaslin for the next three hours. “After no response, officers made entry into the home where they found McCaslin, along with her three children, dead inside,” the bureau said. “It was determined that McCaslin shot all three kids and then turned the weapon on herself.” The State Bureau of Investigation and Verdigris police did not immediately respond to requests for comment Saturday. McCaslin locked the woman and two other children in the garage, according to the newspaper. The woman used a firework to draw attention to the home. She and the two other children were able to escape with the help of officers, Shackelford told the World. Billy Jacobson, the father of one of the children who were killed, alleged that McCaslin had been upset over their breakup. “Please keep us in your prayers,” he captioned a Facebook post of the three children. Timothy Shea “stole hundreds of thousands of dollars in donations to line his own pockets,” U.S. Attorney Damian Williams of the Southern District of New York said in a statement. Shea, 52, was sentenced to 63 months, or five years and three months in prison, the U.S. Attorney’s Office said. “We Build the Wall” was a crowdfunded effort to build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. President Donald Trump made a wall a key part of his 2016 campaign and presidency. It pulled in more than $25 million, federal prosecutors said. The government alleged that Shea and others defrauded donors and took money for their own use. Steve Bannon, former chief White House strategist in the Trump administration, was also charged in the scheme. Bannon, who had pleaded not guilty, was pardoned by Trump in the final hours of his presidency in 2021, and never stood trial. Shea, of Castle Rock, Colo., also pleaded not guilty, but was convicted by a jury in October
